The blocker challenge when implementing software defined radio receiver RF frontends
نویسنده
چکیده
Key blocker requirements of software defined radio receivers are identified from first principles. Three challenges are derived from these requirements, the need for passive filter banks or tunable passive filters, a very highly linear RF front-end and a high performance analog-todigital converter. Each of these challenges is analyzed regarding possible solutions in the context of state-of-the art technology. Blockers, Integrated circuit design, Passive filters, Radio receivers.

Future Reconfigurable Radio Frontends for Cognitive Radio and Software Defined Radio: From Functional Materials to Spectrum Management
Cognitive Radio (CR) and Software Defined Radio (SDR), concepts which were mere proposals to solve the population of services over the past two decades, are now enabled by novel materials and components to offer fully reconfigurable devices. Thus, a convergence of services can be attained within a reduced, or even single RF (Radio Frequency) signal path in the device. A solid design of reconfig...
متن کاملConstructing Receiver Signal Points using Constrained Massive MIMO Arrays
A low cost solution for constructing receiver signal points is investigated that combines a large number of constrained radio frequency (RF) frontends with a limited number of full RF chains. The constrained RF front ends have low cost and are limited to on/off switching of antenna elements and a small number of phases. Severe degradations are typically observed for multi-user MIMO for these si...
متن کامل1–10GHz Inductorless Receiver in 0.13μm CMOS
In this paper, we describe an inductorless wideband radio receiver architecture from 1GHz to 10GHz. Two receiver RF frontends designs are presented and compared: a traditional inductor peaking LNA and mixer (IPLM) and a capacitive peaking LNA and mixer circuit (CPLM). Measurement results indicate that CPLM with the same bandwidth has better linearity, comparable noise figure and uses only 17% m...
متن کاملSoftware Defined Radio Prototyping with Visual C++ Express and Code Composer Studio
The primary goal of this project was educational: to demonstrate Software Defined Radio based prototyping using Visual C++ Express and Code Composer Studio. More specifically an IEEE802.11a Phy [1] compliant baseband processor was written in C++ and a radio link demonstrated “live” using a standard PCand the DSK6713 kit from Spectrum Digital [2] for baseband processing at the receiver and trans...
متن کاملDiscrete-Time Receivers for Software-Defined Radio: Challenges and Solutions
CMOS radio receiver architectures, based on radio frequency (RF) sampling followed by discrete-time (DT) signal processing via switched-capacitor circuits, have recently been proposed for dedicated radio standards. This paper explores the suitability of such DT receivers for highly flexible softwaredefined radio (SDR) receivers. Via symbolic analysis and simulations we analyze the properties of...
